Twenty members representing 15 businesses were in attendance Tuesday, September 18, 2007, for the monthly meeting of the Brownsville Business Association held at the Delta Room. Those present were: Sonia Outlaw-Clark, Albert Campbell, Daniel Thornton, Tim Stokely, Brenda Lea, Bill Lea, Holly Haak, Richard Carraway, Kay Kirkland, Ann Lytle, Monica Bivens, Scottie and Betty Morris, Sara Littlejohn, Jim Haywood, Mayor Franklin Smith, Betty Williams, Joyce Moore and Jo Anne Finn.
Vice President Albert Campbell called the meeting to
order, in the absence of President Pat Bailey, and opened with prayer. Jean
Carney read the Mission Statement.
Tim Stokely presented the Treasurer’s Report showing dues deposits and other donations. The balance as of September 18 is $2,102.94. A motion was made and seconded to accept the report. The motion carried.
Sonia Outlaw-Clark presented an update on the Hatchie Fall Fest and encouraged everyone to participate in the Scarecrow contest and fall fest by having sidewalk sales and other special promotions. A “Festival of Savings” promotion to run from Oct. 13-20, was introduced and the States-Graphic and Brownsville Radio offered special advertising prices for those interested in participating.
A Holiday Promotions calendar was presented that outlined special dates coming up, including Holiday Open House and Thursday night Christmas shopping.
Holly Haak told about an idea that she had seen work in other communities. She suggested a theme be chosen and a life-size or large sculpture be made to represent the theme with each business buying a sculpture and painting it for display outside their businesses. Each artwork would be unique and could be auctioned off as a fundraiser. Everyone was asked to think about this and a possible theme.
The next meeting of the BBA will be at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, October 16, at the Delta Room (behind Backyard Barbecue), 703 East Main.
Respectfully Submitted,
Sonia Outlaw-Clark, Secretary
