Minutes

Thirty members representing 28 businesses were in attendance Tuesday, April 17, 2007, for the monthly meeting of the Brownsville Business Association held at the Delta Room. Those present were: Tim Stokely, Jerry Rogers, Jim Murphy, Joyce Moore, Jo Anne Finn, Darlene Knox, Brenda Blue-Recio, Pearleen Shaw, Betty Williams, Elmira Manns, Brenda Cain, LeAnne Hart, Danny Murley, Betty Morris, Scottie Morris, Albert Campbell, Kay Kirkland, Pam Stewart, Ann Lytle, Pat Bailey, Sonia Outlaw-Clark, Danny Dean, Joe Stephens, Joe Ing, Richard Carraway, Dr. Steve Kail, Harvey Livingston, Jim Haywood, Marieta Haywood and Dr. sue McElrath.
Pat Bailey called the meeting to order and Albert Campbell opened with prayer. Pat thanked everyone for attending and reminded members to get agenda items to Sonia by Thursday before our regular Tuesday meetings..
Sonia Outlaw-Clark presented the minutes. Motion was made and seconded. Minutes were approved as presented. She also reminded everyone to complete the sign-up sheets available at each table and informed everyone of the current membership now at 103.
Tim Stokely presented the Treasurer’s Report showing dues deposits and other donations. The balance as of April 17 is $1,461.94. Tim also reported two recent donations made to the BBA by the Chamber of Commerce and Brownsville Retail Development. A motion was made and seconded to accept the report. The motion carried.
After making revisions from the previous meeting, the Mission Statement was presented again. Pat read the proposed statement. A motion was made and seconded to accept. The motion passed.
Members were then invited to cast their vote for the new BBA logo. Logos were numbered and present for viewing. Each member was asked to pick three logos. Betty Morris, Albert Campbell and Tim Stokely counted votes and presented the top winners.
The winner of the contest was Sonia Outlaw-Clark. She received a $100 bill donated by an anonymous donor.
Pat announced that no one had expressed interest in the Spring Fling.
The board also announced that Ann Gardner has agreed to serve as hospitality chair and be responsible for welcoming new businesses to town with a gift basket from the association. Members are asked to take their donations to this basket to Ann or call her and she will pick them up.
Richard Carraway invited members to participate in a brochure planned for production in June. Cost would be $100 and approx. 25,000 brochures would be distributed at various locations and would promote shopping Brownsville.
Members were also invited to a seminar about the new Cover Tennessee health care plan to be conducted on Wed., May 9 at the chamber. Lunch will be provided for free and members should RSVP to the chamber before that day.
Joe Ing also announced about the 1175th being called to duty and asked members to help donate items that will be needed by the unit.
Brenda Blue-Recio announced an upcoming event planned for May 12 at the West Haywood Community Center. It will be a Health Education Awareness Seminar focused on sexually transmitted diseases and the effect this epidemic is having on Haywood County.
The next meeting of the BBA will be at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 17, at the Delta Room (behind Backyard Barbecue), 703 East Main.
