Nineteen members representing 16 businesses were in attendance Tuesday, November 14, 2006, for the monthly meeting of the Brownsville Business Association held at The Delta Room, Backyard Barbecue. Those present were: Kay Kirkland, Elizabeth Moore, Brenda Cain, Albert Campbell, Vickie McCartney, Richard Carraway, Danny Dean, Jerry Rogers, Ann and Samuel Gardner, Tim Stokely, Diane Hooper, Pat Bailey, Betty Morris, Sonia Outlaw-Clark, Harvey Livingston, Mike Williams, Brenda Blue-Recio and Anthony Thomas.

Secretary Sonia Outlaw-Clark called the meeting to order. Albert Campbell opened with a prayer. Minutes of the last meeting were approved as presented. Treasurer’s report shows $670 in account.

The discussion concerning the success of the Hatchie Fall Fest was the first order of business. Many businesses expressed positive comments and were very pleased with the effect on their business that day. Some expressed a desire for a spring event and also interest in a monthly event on the courtsquare. Concern was expressed about blocking Jefferson Street during the festival and the inclusion of Jefferson St. businesses next year.

Albert Campbell expressed his thanks to members for their involvement in the BBA and the general positive attitude of the association. He asked all members to remember and patronize each other and get to know everyone better.

Richard Carraway showed a video from several years ago promoting Brownsville and Haywood County.

Carraway asked businesses for feedback about the upcoming Court Square Christmas activities. Members were asked to participate in the Christmas Tree decorating contest on the courthouse lawn and also the home and business lighting contest. The Chamber Ambassadors will help man the Enchanted Forest.

Members were also reminded of the crowds that gather during the annual Christmas Parade and asked to stay open later to take advantage of this event.

Danny Dean, Brownsville States-Graphic, is offering BBA members advertising space for their After Thanksgiving Sales for a 2x5 ad with color for $40. All members are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity.

The next meeting of the BBA will be Tuesday, December 12, at Morris Jewelers, 35 North Lafayette.

Respectfully Submitted,
